I am a bit of a junkie when it comes to using the telephone. I know it is old fashioned, because these days everyone is texting, chatting, using Skype, Facebook, Twitter and whatnot. I’ll admit, I use these technologies too because it is important to stay connected, but there are times when it is ideal to just curl up with the regular, average, ordinary everyday telephone and call a friend for a laugh, a long conversation, or a short hello. For me, this is a great way to work out frustrations or simply waste a lazy afternoon.
I even have one of those paper phone books where I keep all of the numbers for my friends as well. I know this is another thing that I should put into a digital format, but if I need a phone number digitally I can just visit Canada 411 or a similar information website to find the data that I need. Otherwise, I just thumb through my extensive phone book to find all of my friends and their contact information, which is always at my fingertips when I need it.
Sometimes, it is nice to go back to the basics and enjoy what is simple in life. I feel like my old home phone and phone book are pieces of me that remain unchanged, and that I can return to in times of stress. When the electricity goes out, my phone still works because I opted against all the bells and whistles, and so by candlelight I can call people that truly matter to me and chat with them until the electricity is restored. This is a great way for me to spend my time, overcoming the stress of the blackout, and only positive things ever come from calling my friends. You should consider calling up a friend today, and see what it does for your mood.
